Five Years in Water Engineering

pięciolecie hydrobim

On July 4, 2024, we celebrated the fifth anniversary of HydroBIM. On this occasion, we summarize our achievements and share our successes. Over the past five years, we have implemented ambitious projects, pioneering the practical use of BIM in hydro engineering. We proudly present the most important implementations and innovations we have introduced to the hydro engineering sector. Our achievements are the result of commitment, knowledge, and technology, which have allowed us to become a leader in the application of digital technologies in hydro engineering design.

Summary:

In the past five years, we have completed 29 projects. Each of them contributed to improving hydrotechnical safety. Mainly in Poland, but we also had an exotic assignment in Tanzania. Our work primarily results in tangible effects visible in improving the quality of life of local communities and increasing flood safety. Our projects represent real changes on the hydrotechnical map of Poland.

Most Important Water Engineering Projects of HydroBIM’s Five-year Period

Modernization of the San river embankments

One of the largest projects we have carried out was the modernization of the San river embankments. This project was implemented in cooperation with AECOM Poland and the World Bank. The scope of work included sealing, raising, and modernizing the flood embankments of the San river in the Stalowa Wola and Zaleszany municipalities. It was an extremely complex task that required advanced technology and precise management. Thanks to the use of modern BIM methods and technologies, we successfully completed the project, increasing the safety of the region’s inhabitants.

Expansion of the left Vistula river embankment

Another important project is the expansion of the left flood embankment of the Vistula river. The project covers the section from the mouth of the Kościelnicki stream to the mouth of the Nidzica river. The length of the modernized section is 14.520 km. The investment aims to increase flood safety in this area.

Construction of dry flood reservoirs in Upper Odra

In the towns of Szalejów and Krosnowice, we supervised the construction of dry flood reservoirs. This project was carried out in cooperation with SWECO and the World Bank, with HydroBIM experts being part of the Contract Engineer team. The task involved project supervision and ensuring that all works were in line with the plan and met the highest quality standards. The Szalejów Górny and Krosnowice reservoirs, along with the Roztoki and Boboszów reservoirs, today form the backbone of flood protection for the Kłodzko Valley, which was heavily affected by floods in 1997 and 2010.

Expansion of the Biała river embankments

The expansion of the Biała river embankments in the Tarnów municipality was another significant project in which we served as the Contract Engineer. The project involved overseeing the expansion of the left and right embankments of the Biała river. Our task was to ensure that all works were carried out according to schedule and the highest quality standards. This project significantly increased flood protection in the region, which is crucial for the safety of residents and infrastructure.

CPK Railway Projects

HydroBIM has participated or is participating in five railway sections within the CPK program. These “Centralny Port Komunikacyjny” , known also as the Solidarity Transport Hub, projects involve the construction of new railway lines, which are fundamental to the development of transport infrastructure in Poland. Here are the most important ones:

  • LK No. 85 on the Warsaw West-CPK-Łódź Niciarniana section
  • LK No. 86 on the Czernica Wrocławska-Wrocław Main section
  • LK No. 29 on the Ostrołęka-Łomża-Pisz-Giżycko section
  • LK No. 54 Trawniki-Krasnystaw
  • LK No. 56 Wólka Orłowska-Zamość-Tomaszów Lubelski-Bełżec
  • LK No. 5 on the Grochowalsk-Grudziądz-Gdańsk section

Innovative Technologies and Digital Twin

In 2023, HydroBIM delivered a Digital Twin model for the Port of Gdynia. This technology allows for integrated digital information management and optimization of operational processes in the Port. This innovative approach to infrastructure management is an example of how modern technologies contribute to improved management and process optimization in large infrastructure facilities.
